The Word on Weightloss

Feeling Good During The Holidays

So, you gained a few pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas and now you are dreading facing your nemesis: the New Year’s Eve party dress.  No need to dodge cameras and be a wallflower; take charge of the night and feel great about yourself by keeping these easy tips in mind.

In past posts, you've read some of the tricks and tips for making the holiday party and tempting holiday goodies work with your healthy diet and weight loss plan. But maybe you ignored it because those buttery treats your friend brought to the party were too good to pass up, or you had a momentary lapse of judgment when you laid eyes on those creamy peppermint cocktails at the open bar.  During the holidays, focus on weight maintenance if staying on your weight loss program is difficult. What’s done is done, and you can get serious about your diet when you are ready and the holiday temptations are gone.

For now, focus on the task at hand; feeling your best when the clock strikes midnight this December 31st. Here is some sage advice to get you to quit feeling guilty and get you in the mood for celebration:

  • Dress to feel great, and the rest will follow. Don’t wear something that you think you should or that may be in style but does nothing for your figure.  If you don’t feel great in your holiday clothes, you won’t look great either. You’ll fuss and fidget and your confidence level will be noticeably low to others.  Find something that works for you, like a dress that hugs your curves in just the right way, and you’ll lighten the party’s mood without even realizing the effect you’ve had!
  • Razzle Dazzle Them. You may feel that your best bet is to wear slimming black but don’t want to risk feeling bland.  Liven up your look with some shimmer on your eyes/cheeks/lips, a brightly colored flower for your hair, or a bold accessory that will draw all attention to it, and more importantly, away from the trouble areas where the holiday pounds have turned up in recent weeks.
  • Get some exercise.  Rejuvenate yourself with some fresh air.  Even a 15 minute walk will leave you feeling energized and healthy, so bundle up and take in some crisp winter air before getting all dolled up. The exhilaration is guaranteed to leave you in high spirits.

Take one or all of these to heart and you’re sure to enter 2010 feeling great!  Happy New Year!

Choosing a Personal Trainer
