The Word on Weightloss

Low Calorie Summer Punch

One of the best things about summer is all the parties. Cookouts, family reunions, picnics, and weddings are all summer staples. And one thing that is common at all of them is usually traditional summer drinks.

Everyone loves a good cold summery drink whether it’s a Slurpie or a sherbet-based punch, but they usually aren’t the healthiest choice available. Although they might seem like a light summer drink, they usually pack a high calorie count because of all the sugar that’s included. But you don’t have to worry that your next summer party is going to be a calorie disaster, because we have great recipes for low-calorie summer punch.

Fruit Punch

  • Fruit punch is of course a classic summer punch, but we’re not talking about the bright red Kool-Aid fruit punch packets. We’re trying for a low-calorie summer punch after all. Chop fruits like apricots, peaches, and plums and combine them with sugar-free fruit juice (preferably one made with 100% real fruit) and some sparkling grape or apple juice.

Lemonade

  • Lemonade is of course an important summer staple. Whether you add raspberries, strawberries, or mint or just leave the lemonade plain, your party will be a hit with refreshing fresh lemonade. It’s a little more work to juice all those lemons, but if you get friends and family involved, it can be a fun pre-party activity. And who doesn’t love a glass of fresh lemonade?

Homemade Fruit Smoothies

  • Fruit smoothies are also a great summer drink option that are incredibly healthy for you. Just blend up any fresh or frozen fruits that you would like with some ice. You could use fat free yogurt, milk, or water depending on the kind of consistency you want your smoothie to have. Fruits like pineapple, banana, mango, and lime all taste great mixed with orange juice. Berries can also be mixed with grape juice for a slightly different flavor, but watch the kind of grape juice you use. Not all fruit juices actually contain fruit and some are loaded with sugar.

No matter which of our low-calorie summer punch recipes you decide to use this summer, your party will certainly be a hit with your friends and family. Everyone will remember the extra time you took to prepare a fresh summer drink that is low in calories and sugar instead of using an instant mix packed with calories.

The lower the calories in your summer punch, the more you can enjoy it.
