A full-featured weight-loss portal, DietWatch supplies everything you need for a successful diet and exercise program – except the food itself. Although centered around four diet plans, each with its own focus, DietWatch can also be customized for dieters using meals by Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, or any other source.

DietWatch offers these four plans:

  • The “No Restrictions” meal plan. For those without specific dietary concerns, but are looking to make healthy and balanced choices in what they eat.
  • The “Reduced Carbohydrate” meal plan limits carbohydrate intake to 40% of total calories. This is not a low carb diet like Atkins, and does not induce a state of ketosis – where the body tries to hang onto its fat because it thinks it is starving.
  • The “Mediterranean/Heart-Healthy” meal plan is modeled after the traditional eating habits of Mediterranean societies that focus on healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats while limiting saturated and trans fats.
  • The “Vegetarian” is for those who don’t eat meat, although it does include dairy and egg – as well as a variety of soy foods and meat substitutes.

DietWatch balances its meal plans with an interactive exercise log. Calorie counters allow you to factor in the calories you are burning as well as those you consume.

DietWatch also offers a great deal of information on making good food choices on your own. The “Eat Right” section is a guide to nutrition basics, from the Food Guide Pyramid, to smart shopping and information about healthy eating habits.

The “Food Focus” section provides weight loss information, and the “Fast Food Quest” lists calorie and nutrition information from over 40 fast food and chain restaurants.

DietWatch balances all of this raw information with a “softer” side – including a section on goal setting, positive thinking and stress management. There is even a virtual “Meditation Room” with calming music and inspirational messages.

Good meal suggestions

I decided to try this plan because I like cooking and preparing my own food, but I just needed some suggestions for healthy alternatives. I chose the "Mediterranean Style" meal plan and I really loved all of the recipes. I also liked how they offer and exercise log and lots of nutritional info. The plan basically helped me to change my lifestyle to be healthier, but you can be as drastic or as minimal as you want. I would recommend to anyone who wants to live healthier and lose weight on your own terms.

Feel Fuller Longer

Having a hard time filling full? Try eating some beans!. They work to curb your between-meal appetite and give you fiber and protein. In fact, one-half cup of pinto beans or kidney beans has around 8 grams fiber and 7 grams of protein, all for about 110 calories.

Oil Substitutes

Most oils have 120 calories per tablespoon. Reduce those calories by using low-salt chicken broth when cooking food in a pan and replace 1/2 the the oil required when baking with applesauce!
