The Points System
For nearly fifty years, WeightWatchers has been virtually synonymous with dieting, and for many years it seemed to be the only game in town. These days there are almost as many weight-loss programs as there are types of food, but with its history of weekly meetings and patented “Points System” to regulate how much you eat, WeightWatchers remains a leading choice among people looking to drop pounds.

Remaining faithful to its original approach that focuses on peer support and measured menus, WeightWatchers has continued to innovate and stay in step with the times.

In Person or Online
In many ways, the WeightWatchers online system is even more effective than when you had to go to a meeting and face other dieters face-to-face. Now, using their Web-based support tools, online community, recipes, and exercise demonstrations, you can follow the WeightWatchers program from the comfort and privacy of your own home. This is particularly appealing to people who’d rather not share their weight-loss struggles in such a public forum. Of course, combining the WeightWatchers online services with their traditional meetings can provide the one-two punch you need to finally shed those extra inches.

Eat What You Like
As always, one of the most appealing aspects of the WeightWatchers program is that there are no restrictions on what kinds of foods you may eat – only on how much. Once you are a member, you learn how to assign points to everything you eat. Portions need to be measured and foods must be identified by their fat, calorie, and fiber content.

WeightWatchers offers tools to take much of the guess-work out of it.

  • Low-tech booklets are available, as are high-tech point calculators.
  • A wealth of information available to help you “spend” your points wisely by making healthy food choices.
  • A wide variety of prepared meals that are available in supermarkets everywhere.

The points system also takes into account your exercise regiment. If you added points by helping yourself to that slice of pie, you can always jog those off – along with the calories.

With WeightWatchers you need never get bored with what you are eating – and that is one of the main reasons why so many are able to stick with WeightWatchers until they reach their target weight.

Weight Loss Plan Rundown: It does take a certain amount of focus to manage the Points System, but you’ll learn to make good, healthy menu choices that can stick with you long after you’ve reached your target weight. Whether online of off, WeightWatchers is unsurpassed when it comes to offering encouragement and support.

How I Lost Weight on Weight Watchers

Submitted by Taliyah on Thu, 12/10/2009 - 18:24.

I tried several in-person diets and I found Weight Watchers to be the one for me! At first I went to meetings but I couldn't make them and then I felt bad and my counselor told me I could follow the plan via their web site, so I did.

One thing I liked about Weight Watchers is that I could eat my normal food, but I learned about the Points and how to make my food fit into my Points. I cut down on a lot and I started going to the farmer's market to get fresh produce and started eating healthier. I could still reward myself with one of my favorite snacks, but I ate a portion that fit into my Points.

Sometimes I buy the Weight Watchers meals at the market, but I am trying to cook healthy things so that this is a change in my lifestyle, not just another diet. The meals are good for work when I don't have time to pack my lunch.

I added a 20-30 minute walk with my kids and that has helped me get beyond a plateau! When I've gotten to my goal weight, I'll still have the knowledge to eat right and stay healthy - and still be able to reward myself every so often!

Feel Fuller Longer

Having a hard time filling full? Try eating some beans!. They work to curb your between-meal appetite and give you fiber and protein. In fact, one-half cup of pinto beans or kidney beans has around 8 grams fiber and 7 grams of protein, all for about 110 calories.

Oil Substitutes

Most oils have 120 calories per tablespoon. Reduce those calories by using low-salt chicken broth when cooking food in a pan and replace 1/2 the the oil required when baking with applesauce!
